We have answers to all your concerns
MoniMata is a zero-based budgeting app built specifically for Nigerians. It helps you assign every naira of your income to a category — rent, food, transport, savings — so nothing is left unplanned. Transactions are captured automatically from bank alert emails, categorised with AI, and stored offline-first on your device
Zero-based budgeting means every naira of income gets assigned to a specific category before you spend it. Your unassigned balance should always be ₦0 — not because you've spent everything, but because every kobo has a job. MoniMata automates this process with smart auto-assign strategies.
MoniMata never asks for your bank login credentials. Instead, you forward copies of your bank alert emails — your bank never knows MoniMata exists. All transaction data is stored locally on your device using WatermelonDB, and you can enable biometric lock (fingerprint or Face ID) for extra security.
There are four ways to get transactions into MoniMata
MoniMata can parse alert emails from any Nigerian bank that sends transaction alerts via email, including GTBank, Access Bank, UBA, First Bank, Zenith Bank, Kuda, OPay, PalmPay, and Moniepoint. If your bank sends email alerts, MoniMata can read them.
Yes. MoniMata uses rule-based matching (by merchant name and narration) to auto-categorise transactions. For more advanced categorisation, you can bring your own API key (BYOK) for premium AI models like OpenAI or Google Gemini. You always review and confirm before categories are finalised.
Absolutely. MoniMata is built on WatermelonDB, an offline-first database. All your data is stored locally on your device and works without internet. When you reconnect, changes sync automatically.
Core features — budgeting, transaction capture, manual categorisation, savings goals, Pidgin nudges, and offline storage — are free. Premium AI categorisation requires you to provide your own API key (BYOK model).
MoniMata offers 5 smart strategies to automatically distribute your income across budget categories — so you don't have to manually assign every naira. Strategies include proportional allocation based on past spending, equal distribution, priority-based assignment, and more.
No. MoniMata does not connect directly to any bank API and never asks for your bank login credentials. Transaction capture works by reading forwarded copies of your bank alert emails. Your bank never knows MoniMata exists.
